Breast Tomosynthesis (3D)

SMIL offers a breast Tomosynthesis (3D) exam which enables SMIL’s contracted Radiologists to take 3D images of the breasts. Breast Tomosynthesis minimizes the impact of overlapping breast tissue during imaging because the camera moves over the breast taking images from multiple angles. These images are combined to create a three dimensional rendering of the entire breast. Breast Tomosynthesis is performed at the same time as a 2D mammogram.

Breast Tomosynthesis allows SMIL’s contracted Radiologists to manipulate the images to see areas of concern from all angles. Breast Tomosynthesis (3D) provides more images for Radiologists to review as they screen for breast abnormalities and breast cancer.

The benefits of breast Tomosynthesis (3D) include:

  • Earlier detection of small breast cancers that can sometimes be hidden during 2D mammography
  • Greater accuracy in pinpointing size, shape and location of abnormalities
  • Fewer unnecessary biopsies or additional tests
  • Greater likelihood of detecting multiple breast tumors, which occur in 15% of breast cancer patients.

Had an MRI done here. All the staff were very friendly. I left the office and barely got home from the scam and my dr called telling me to get to the hospital right away. The radiologist had already contacted him with information from my scan. I am extremely grateful for their attention to detail and promptness.

This facility is amazing and all 3 ladies who took care of me today were wonderful! I’m pretty claustrophobic and was very nervous but the staff was so kind and I’m very very grateful!
