Benefits and Risks- Breast Tomosynthesis (3D)
Benefits
Breast Tomosynthesis (3D) exams provide a way for Radiologists to view breast abnormalities from all angles to help diagnose problems.
When cancers are small, the woman has more treatment options and a cure is more likely.
Risks
There are risks associated with any exposure to radiation. However, the benefits outweigh the risk when mammography is done accurately using the lowest possible dose.
Breast Tomosynthesis (3D) is not recommended for women who are pregnant or could possibly be pregnant.
