Very little preparation is necessary for a Galactography exam at SMIL. Prior to the exam, do not squeeze or express any discharge from the nipples. It is very important for the Radiologist to be able to see which duct is producing discharge at the time of the exam.
Before the Galactography exam you will be asked to remove all jewelry and clothing above the waist.You should inform your SMIL technologist of any medications you are taking and if you have any allergies, specifically to iodinated contrast materials. Also inform your SMIL technologist about recent illnesses or other medical conditions.
Tell your SMIL staff if there is any possibility that you are pregnant. Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of the exam. These can appear on the images as calcifications.
