Benefits and Risks – Pelvic Ultrasound
Benefits
A pelvic ultrasound exam is noninvasive and painless.
Ultrasound is widely available, easy-to-use and less expensive than other imaging methods.
Ultrasound imaging is extremely safe and does not use any ionizing radiation.
A pelvic ultrasound exam gives a clear picture of soft tissues that do not show up well on x-ray images.
Pelvic ultrasound can help to identify and evaluate a variety of reproductive system disorders without even the minimal risks associated with x-ray exposure.
Risks
For standard pelvic ultrasound, there are no known harmful effects.
