Oncologic Radiology
In the war against cancer, Scottsdale Medical Imaging is armed with some of the world's most formidable weapons. Detailed anatomic views produced by today's imaging technology dramatically enhance a physician's ability to diagnose, treat and monitor disease - thereby allowing the radiologist to play a critical role in cancer care.
At the forefront of this technology is Positron Emission Tomography (PET). PET stands alone in its unique ability to display high-definition images of metabolic function. Using short-lived radioactive compounds that localize in cancer cells, PET can detect small amounts of malignant tissue even in the absence of the kinds of structural changes required for visualization with CT, MRI or ultrasound. Since such tissue is often undetectable by conventional imaging techniques, PET's ability to find cancer earlier, show its extent more clearly and evaluate whether cancer cells are returning following chemotherapy, radiation or surgery makes it invaluable as a treatment planning tool.
Scottsdale Medical Imaging is proud to offer our patients a dedicated PET facility, equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment.
