Bone and Muscle Scans

SMIL offers bone and muscle scans to examine and diagnose abnormalities in the bones and muscles. SMIL’s radiologists use musculoskeletal radiology to perform a full range of musculoskeletal imaging using a variety of modalities, including general radiography (x-ray), CT, MRI, CT arthrography and MR arthrography.

Bone and muscle scans can diagnose unexplained pain in the joints in addition to the bones and muscles. Bone and muscle scans can also be used to treat injuries in trauma patients.

SMIL offers bone and muscle scan services in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Gilbert, Mesa, Paradise Valley and Fountain Hills, Arizona. SMIL offers the following bone and muscle scans:

CT Scan
SMIL offers different CT scans to examine pain in the joints and to detect fractures. CT scanning allows SMIL radiologists to view the functions of the joints, muscles and bones. CT gives a highly detailed picture of the anatomy of bone and the resulting changes due to a variety of pathologic conditions such as injury (fracture), infection or tumor.

MR Scan
We offer bone and muscle MR scans to evaluate the bones, muscles, muscle tears, bone infection, hip pain, and joint pain in a painless, noninvasive way.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging is a safe way to evaluate the muscles and does not use any radiation. SMIL offers a musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Arthrography
SMIL offers examination of a joint by injecting contrast material directly into the joint and imaging it using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT).

Radiography (X-ray)
SMIL provides different radiography imaging services to examine problems in the bones, muscles, joints and to assess bone density using DXA.

In addition to these services, SMIL also offers these interventional radiology and nuclear medicine services:
